Giving Back: It’s in Our DNA

Credit unions like Mazuma play a unique and vital role in our communities. Yes, we provide accessible, personalized financial services (with lower loan rates and higher dividends than many other institutions) to our Members, but that’s not all!
As a proudly local, Member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution, our Members are our shareholders. That means our profits are invested back into our Members and the community in which they live. Our Members’ money doesn’t end up benefitting out of state investors with money to spare - it stays right here in Kansas City to make it a better place for everyone who lives or works here.
Giving back isn’t just something we do to make ourselves look or feel good; it’s an essential part of our structure and our purpose.
How We Give Back
Mazuma’s commitment to giving back to our Members and community is wide-ranging but can be summed up by three major pillars – sharing our time, our space, and our resources.
Mazuma’s 40 Hours for Good program gives Team Members 40 hours of paid volunteer time annually to support Kansas City nonprofit organizations focused on the arts, financial education, or community development. In 2024, participation exceeded 5,500 hours of volunteer time! During our Give Back Day in October, 150 Team Members shared their time and effort at 9 YMCA of Greater Kansas City branches in support of their efforts to improve the lives of Kansas Citians through healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.
We also offer the community spaces at our headquarters and select branch locations free of charge for organizations looking for space to meet and discuss social or economic initiatives that make Kansas City a better place for all who live here.

"As a nonprofit serving individuals and families from across greater Kansas City, we appreciate the support from organizations like the Mazuma Foundation,” says David S. Wiley, President & CEO of Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. “Mazuma understands the importance of making quality care available to everyone in Kansas City facing a serious illness or experiencing grief. Specifically, we've partnered with the Mazuma Foundation to provide education and online tools to create wills, trusts, and other vital documents - free of charge.
